In Nova Scotia, the Minister of Community Services provides child welfare services under the mandate of the Children and Family Services Act (1990)There are 18 provincial offices within four regions of the province and one First Nations child welfare agency. These agencies receive reports of child abuse and neglect and offer child protection and support services to children and families within the district. The most notable variations between provinces include mandate variation by jurisdiction with respect to the age to which children are eligible for services, differences in the length of time a child can receive out-of-home care and the definition of out-of-home care.
