Chaque province et territoire possède sa propre législation qui définit la violence sexuelle et qui décrit comment réagir lorsqu’elle se produit. La violence sexuelle survient lorsqu’on se sert d’un enfant à des fins sexuelles, ce qui comprend un contact sexuel, une exposition à une activité sexuelle ou à du matériel pornographique, ou l’exploitation par la prostitution ou d’autres activités connexes.
