Representative for Children and Youth (January, 2025). Don’t Look Away: Issues Spotlight Too Many Left Behind: Ensuring Children and Youth with Disabilities Thrive. British Columbia: Office of the Representative for Children and Youth.
This report details underfunding, disconnection and significant gaps in services and supports for young people with disabilities and their families in British Columbia. It notes that children and youth with disabilities are overrepresented in government care in B.C., with an average of 41 percent of all children in the care of the government identified as children and youth with disabilities and/or with support needs. The report follows an earlier report (Don’t Look Away) that called for an “all-of-government” approach to the development of a Child Well-Being Strategy and Action Plan. Recommendations and calls to action are included.
