Innu Prevention Approach: Presented to the Innu Round Table Secretariat

The Child Welfare League of Canada (CWLC) conducted an environmental scan and needs assessment at the request of Innu Round Table Secretariat (IRTS) for the needs of the children of two remote communities: Sheshatshiu and Natuashish. This report was presented to the IRTS and makes several observations and recommendations including: problems with funding and inconsistency of service provision; challenges related to the remoteness of the community; drug and alcohol dependency in the community; and lack of infrastructure. The prevention plan includes recommendations increase capacity with regards to human resources, management, community leadership, external supports, and the development of a Innu-specific safety and intervention plan.
