Blackstock, Cindy (2025). Wreckonciliation and the case for total departmental reform. Policy Options

This commentary argues that Canada's Department of Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) and the Government of Canada have repeatedly failed to show residential-school survivors and Canadians they are serious about reconciliation, and "with its inept conduct and colonial stench, ISC needs a deep clean."  The prime minister will have to insist that ISC and the Department of Justice take positive and effective measures to reform themselves and take advantage of evidence-informed solutions and implement the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's calls to action. The author concludes that, "The Canadian public can wield its influence to press elected officials to follow the tribunal’s legal orders, stop making excuses and implement the solutions that would improve children’s lives and stop the bleeding of the federal treasury into the class-action industry."
