The December 2007 Report on the Educational Experiences of Children Under a Continuing Custody Order documents the educational attainment of a particular group of children in the care of the Ministry of Children and Family Development - those under a Continuing Custody Order. A Continuing Custody Order means that the Director of Child Welfare is the sole guardian of the child and the Public Guardian and Trustee manages the child’s estate. As of December 2007, 57 per cent of all children in care were children under a Continuing Custody Order. To improve educational outcomes for children under a Continuing Custody Order, a good understanding of who these children are and how they are currently performing in school must be established. The purpose of this report is to contribute to that understanding.
