This report details the lives of a NFLD family who were followed by child protection services for several years for protection concerns related to medical neglect, housing conditions, violence in the home, addicitons, and parenting capacity. The report also highlights several shortcomings of the families local healthcare services. Despite efforts to reduce the dangers of the home environment, several family members, including two children died in a preventable fire. Recommendations are made regarding relationships and communication with policing agency, nursing and medication adminsitration and dispensing improvements; provision of time for caseworker documentation; and, child protection resources.
